Introduction

“Focus on perfecting and enhancing your best features but not to change you into another person.” With over a decade of professional experience, Candy is well-known for creating "your-skin-but-better" bridal looks that are naturally elevated by makeup. Professional makeup artist and stylist with more than 10 years of experience. Received numerous accolades for her creativity, flair and talent for adorning natural features. Widely known for her engaging personality and ability to identify and connect. Her notable works include international celebrities like Juliet Nicole Simms and Nate Teo, local artistes and corporate clients like Warner Music.

In person, her candid and perky personality puts everyone she talks to at ease. I remember meeting the founder of a2i Makeup at her studio one day. It was seven in the morning. I was a little groggy and still waiting for energy to start kicking in eventually. The bright-eyed Candy, on the other hand, looked ever so ready to seize the day.

Her technical skills — plus her authentic, bubbly character — shine through, making her one of the most genuine veterans in the industry today. Read on as we talk to Candy about making things beautiful and her tip on staying empowered.

Candy believe makeup should be about creating flawless skin while gently enhancing a one’s natural features. For brides, the hairstyle should compliment the look, as well as the gown and overall theme of the wedding. The end result should be natural, yet stunning, showing off the bride at her very best.

The reason she created the a2i Makeup is that she thinks it's her passion to make people beautiful, and semi-permanent makeup is one thing she can wake up to looking beautiful. She flew to Korea to learn the skills from a renowned makeup artist with the aim of bringing back the best techniques, products, and the latest technology. The studio space was set up to provide a cosy and relaxing environment for her clients to enjoy services. It is also a conducive environment for students to learn.

Her favourite makeup trend is highlighting and contouring. In the past, contouring was only used by professionals. The technique is now more widely used to achieve a more defined look on a daily basis. She doesn't have a least favourite trend and believes all makeup concepts are artistic creations and depend on individual perspective. As a makeup artist, she sees all trends as additional ideas she can use to create new looks.
